Dr Ursula Ströbele

Ursula Ströbele is working as assistant professor at Institute for art history and aesthetics, Berlin University of the Arts and freelance curator. She received her PhD at Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf for her research about the sculptural reception pieces (morceaux de réception) of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Paris (1700-1730). In her habilitation project she focuses on the boundaries of sculpture at the intersection of natural sciences, bio-art and digital technologies since the 1960/70s. She examines contemporary art forms such as sculpture as performance, time-based, living and virtual phenomena in sculpture, e.g. in her recent publication at Kritische Berichte „Skulpturale Rhetoriken der Natur. Das Erbe Hans Haackes und die Skulptur als Real Time System heute”. Furthermore she is co-founder of the scientific network “Theory of Sculpture”, supported by the DFG. As curator she has realized several exhibitions, e.g. the series "Sculpting (Virtual) Realities" (Jeremy Couillard, Herbert W. Franke, Stian Korntved Ruud &AE) at TRAFO Stettin and lately "Evolutionary Urge. 24 h Sculpture (Digital/Virtual)" (with Andreas Greiner) at NAVEL, Los Angeles.
