Wir sind Nachbarn

© Sophie Gnest

Which quarter do you wish to live in? The initiative Wir sind Nachbarn [We are Neighbours] managed by the Folkwang graduates Sophie Gnest (media design) and Maren Precht (product design), develops creative projects from, for and with neighbours in Essen's Elting quarter to strengthen the sense of togetherness. Neighbours were able to contribute their skills, interests and wishes in a way that enabled joint, cross-disciplinary ideas to emerge. Gnest and Precht act locally in the Ateliergemeinschaft VierViertel  as interfaces between institutions, businesses, creative minds and the neighbourhood. Since April 2016, they have been engaged with the question of how artistic/design and scientific activities can help support neighbourhood togetherness. By applying targeted methods to the dynamics in design, sociology and education, they organise workshops to seek together courses of action for improving togetherness.
