Kinetic Hacking

© Simon Mellnich

Acoustic and visual installations enable the experience of movement in public spaces. David Janzen and Simon Mellnich use mechanical installations in public spaces to raise awareness of energy consumption by the building technology around us and to sensitise us to the issue. They dock recycled objects to lifts, escalators and sliding doors and use the energy from these to enable them to be experienced in acoustic and visual ways. Using such Kinetic Hacking, the former Fahrstuhlmusik [Lift Music]  served as a prototype for the final concept.
