Prof Kurt Mehnert studied Industrial Design at the Academy of Arts in Berlin and finished his studies with the degree of 'Master of Design'. After several years of work experience he attained his first position as a professor in Dessau in 1994. Together with the teaching staff he set up the department of Design and devised the first 'Master of Integrated Design'. In 1999 he stayed abroad as a visiting professor at Rochester Institut of Technology (RIT), New York. In 1995 mehnert | corporate design GmbH& Co. KG was founded in Berlin and has received several prizes and awards since then. In 2002 Kurt Mehnert attained his professorship at the University of Essen, department of Industrial Design. He leads the renowned course of study 'Industrial Design' and from 2004 in the position as a dean of the faculty of Arts and Design of the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2007 he transferred the faculty of Design to the Folkwang University of Arts and was its president from 2009 to 2016.
