Tobias Staab is working as a freelance director, dramaturge and curator for music and media art.

As a dramaturge Tobias Staab has worked for the Münchner Kammerspiele, Ruhrtriennale and the Bochum theatre. He furthermore curated large sections of the installation and music programme of the Ruhrtriennale between 2015 and 2017. Together with the US choreographer Richard Siegal he founded the dance company Ballet of Difference in 2016, which emerged from an internationally touring group to a permanent dance company in cologne. As a freelance curator, he also launched various programmes and festivals in the realm of music as well as performative and installation arts: Together with Ritournelle he established a festival for advanced electronic pop music at the Münchener Kammerspiele, which took place in the Bochum theatre and as part of the Ruhrtriennale programme in the following years. The Noise Signal Silence Festival (Munich, 2017 / Cologne, 2018) which was founded by Tobias Staab takes place at the interface of experimental electronic music, media art and dance. As part of the Bauhaus-100-Festival at the academy of arts in 2019 in Berlin, he designed an interdisciplinary programme under the name Hyper.Culture that framed a concept for a newly and interculturally Bauhaus in the 21st century. In 2019 Tobias Staab founded the DIVE Festival für immersive Künste in Bochum. Since 2018, he has been curating and directing the new media centre Oval Office in Bochum. In 2019 Tobias Staab wrote and directed the music theatre project O Augenblick as a tribute to the theatre and the centennial history of the ensemble of Bochum. In 2020 Tobias Staab developed and directed the piece After Work – Ein Requiem für den arbeitenden Menschen, which examines the relation between work and identity at the interface of dance, play and fine art.
