Silke Schönfeld is a freelance artist. After studying liberal arts at the Academy of Arts in Münster and Düsseldorf, Germany, as well as at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, Israel, she has been living and working in Amsterdam and Dortmund.
Her works were presented, among others, at exhibitions at the Art Gallery Düsseldorf, the Temporary Gallery Cologne, the Dortmunder U, the Goethe Institute Paris and the Folkwang Museum in Essen.
Silke Schönfeld received the DEW21 Advancement Award in 2017 in Dortmund. She was honoured with the 73th International Bergisch Art Award in 2019.
Her cinematic works range from installations, to cinematic stagings and documentaries. They are political reflexions, that often take place in unexpected spatial and temporal relations.
She is artist in residence at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam since 2020.
