The Bochum-based Musikbüro Bochum e.V., a contact point and information portal for musicians, is using the pilot platform Lalla:Labor to support the local pop music scene. The project is filling a gap by offering support to music. The Ruhr region has a multitude of bands, musicians, event organisers is and music clubs for which the Ruhr-Sound-Pool project establishes a regional network of event organisers, musicians, bands, clubs and other music initiatives.
Over a 6-month pilot period, the above-mentioned actors are being registered, networked and given support, e.g. by raising the profile and client acquisition for event organisers, as well as coaching and the provision of communication packages for musicians and bands. The initiatiors have become network partners and are active across a joint communications platform, the Ruhr-Sound-Online portal. The partner network promotes cooperations and jointly organised events and concerts, primarily through personal contact made through the online portal. Bands and musicians who show dedication and potential gain instant benefits from the new network by being selected by a special jury for individual support. A specific support package is provided to cover needs such as studio recording, band photos and press statements, and also connects creative talents across the region with regional actors in the creative economy (e.g. sound studio operators, photographers, graphic artists etc.). The new platform is intended for both bands/musicians and event and venue organisers from around the Ruhr region. A regional scout acts as a central point of contact, networker, consultant and trouble-shooter. The project concludes with a workshop to gather together the new knowledge gained as well as to formulate perspectives and financing options for promoting popular music in the region over the long term.
