Mona el Gammal (*1986 in Bochum) studied scenography and has been working on narrative spaces since 2006. Together with her team, she creates parallel worlds that incorporate the audience and turn them into protagonists. She has worked at such venues as the Nationalgalerie Berlin, with La Fura dels Baus and was set and costume designer as well as performer for SIGNA at Volksbühne Berlin, Schauspielhaus Hamburg and Republique Copenhagen.
Her "HOUSE//NUMBER/ZERO" won the 2013 Cologne Theatre Prize and was performed again at the Theatertreffen Berlin's Stückemarkt in 2014. In 2016 "RHIZOMAT" carried this narrative forward by telling a story between utopia and dystopia. The project was the opener for "Immersion", the new program of Berliner Festspiele. Based on this work she developed the Virtual Reality Experience "RHIZOMAT VR" that takes a very critical look at the new digital medium. The film was shown at different international festivals and was part of the exhibition "Limits of Knowing" at Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin.
