LEERE_FÜLLE – Re-interpreting public spaces

Public spaces undergo constant change. What was yesterday a kiosk might be a vacant property today and an art gallery tomorrow – or vice versa.

Public spaces undergo constant change. What was yesterday a kiosk might be a vacant property today and an art gallery tomorrow – or vice versa. The quality and character of the urban is malleable and therefore subject to persistent transformation. The LEERE_FÜLLE project aimed to engage with these themes, to transform character and quality as well as public spaces using dance, performance, theatre, photography and film and to re-interpret perceptions. Tours therefore took place in Dortmund, Hamm and Essen with artistic activities taking place at different points with the intention of bringing urban areas closer to onlookers. The "vier D" group organised the routes where supermarkets, art galleries, residential buildings and vacant properties were utilised as places of performance. It was a cultural event about going slower, with public spaces as the canvases.
