Lass dich überrollen / Südseebühne offen / Es tut mir Leid Margarethe [Let yourself be overwhelmed /Southsea stage open/I’m really sorry, Margarethe] – these are keywords in the current production by the mixed-abled performance collective dorisdean. The new production focuses on German TV, and specifically on game/quiz shows. In "Lass dich überrollen [Let yourself be overwhelmed]", dorisdean examines the nature, history and social relationships of German TV game shows from the 1950s and 1960s, with its core question: "Are sexism and racism mental illnesses?" In a crazy journey, different quiz game formats undergo rewriting and are turned on their heads. Cult programmes such as "Was bin ich? [What’s My Line?]" come together with bizarre sideshows and major failures. Then, as today, it is about the healing of a sick nation. dorisdean is a free performance company based in NRW and comprised of performers with a range of physicalities. Since 2011, they have been creating performances on a range of issues on people living together, communication and the direct interaction with awkwardness. The focus is always on the stigma of defects and the non-perfect in or on human bodies.
