"The bid to become European Capital of Culture offers a chance to build on the strength of the City’s existing cultural and creative sector and momentum of the Tour de France, MOBO Awards , host city of Rugby World Cup (both Union and League), the host city for the opening of the prestigious British Art Show 8, World Triathlon Series. More than a celebration of our cultural life, the bid will galvanise every person, organisation and stakeholder in the city, representing networks including culture, business, sport, retail, hospitality, the arts and communities", Leeds2023 states.
The programme during bid phase will showcase Leeds as a major cultural centre embracing the cultures of Europe and the rest of the world. Beforehand, there has been a long phase of preparation: It is four years since they first asked the people of Leeds if they wanted to see the city bid for the title of European Capital of Culture and they responded with a resounding YES LEEDS!
"Now is our chance to celebrate the cultures that bring our city together and put Leeds firmly on the map as we draw closer to submitting our bid for the title on 27th October 2017 and we’re inviting you to help us to #MakeLeeds2023!"
