Vision And Mission

Since 2008, people from all over the world have been meeting once a year in Avignon to discuss interactions between culture and economy: scientists, students, artists, philosophers, politicians, entrepreneurs, and managers. The Forum d’Avignon, called into being during the French EU presidency, and has developed into a leading platform for science and dialogue in Europe. As does the European institution „European Capital of Culture“, the Forum d’Avignon, sees itself as a think tank for social, cultural, and economic progress. >> MORE

The Topic

If a vision is to become reality everything must fit. Ideas, time and place must all be right, belief, will-power, endurance and the necessary competence must be present. Here passion is the main factor in the value chain of creativity. Passion acts like a resource, like an invisible production factor. It creates ideas and enthusiasm, it creates fantasy and awakes the fantasy of others, it is infectious, thrilling and convincing. It helps people to overcome hurdles and failures, to keep working and be successful. The culture and creative industry, with its dynamic market structures and working biographies, often helps to create revolutionary business models and open innovation processes in many areas as model structures for new forms of economy. It also plays a prominent role in cultural matters. >> MORE

ProgrammE 2014

Top personalities from the worlds of culture, business and science were putting forward their definitions and visions of passion. Starting from these examples there were discussions on the conditions, significance and parallels in passion as a factor in innovation in business, culture and society, as well as on its connections with culture itself. This was followed by a discussion on the tasks and challenges politicians have to face. The discussions and talks did therefore outline the current status of the culture and creative economy and – partly building on the theme of spillover effects from the Forum d’Avignon Ruhr 2013 – the interplay of effects with other branches. This gave rise to new insights into quantitative and qualitative aspects and introduce evaluation and research as themes. >> MORE
